At the end of May, a delegation from Dominios.es – the Red.es unit responsible for managing website registrations under Spain’s country code ‘.es’ - took part in the latest edition of the Jamboree, an annual event organised by the Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries (CENTR).
Over the course of three days, the French registry for ‘.fr’, AFNIC, hosted peers, experts and industry leaders in Lyon for a dynamic programme designed to encourage knowledge sharing, address shared challenges, explore collaborative opportunities and strengthen professional networks across the European ccTLD (country code top-level domain) community.
The 2025 Jamboree opened with a welcome address from AFNIC’s CEO, Pierre Bonis, and Director of Partnerships and Innovation, Benoît Ampeau, who presented this year’s agenda. Topics spanned a wide range of pressing issues, including DNS abuse, developments in artificial intelligence, and procedures for responding to potential crisis scenarios, among others.
Participants, both attending in person and joining remotely, included not only representatives from national registries like Dominios.es, but also members of CENTR, LACTLD (the regional counterpart for Latin America and the Caribbean), and ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), along with accredited private sector Registration Agents.
Day two of the event placed particular emphasis on technical developments, with sessions covering blockchain, DDoS mitigation, applications of artificial intelligence, and the evolving role of women in the tech space. Running in parallel were several thought-provoking talks on the social implications of domain name use, as well as discussions around best practices in sustainability.
The final day of the Jamboree featured a series of focused workshops, delving into areas such as Information Sharing and Analysis Centres (ISACs), Business Operations and Processes (BOP), marketing trends, and innovations in research and development.
Reflecting on the experience, Víctor Rodrigo, Director of Domains, Systems and Digital Kit at Red.es, commented: ‘We’ve taken part in three intense and rewarding days of Jamboree, full of meaningful knowledge exchange, networking, and collaboration with fellow ccTLD registries and other professionals brought together by CENTR. Our sincere thanks go to our French colleagues at AFNIC for their impeccable organisation’.
