The statistics on December 2013, which are drawn up by the management team at Dominios.es of the public entity Red.es (Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism) and recently published in the Statistics section of the portal, reveal that a total 3,474,272 domains are registered in Spain and that almost half of them - 48.83% - are “.es” domains (1,696,538). There are over 435,000 more ".es" domains, most clearly identified with Spain and the Spanish language, than “.com” domains, which are second on the list and account for 36.31% of the total. These are followed by “.net” domains (4.81%), “.org” domains (3.22%), “.eu” domains (3.02%), “.cat” domains (2.05%), “.info” domains (1.36%) and “.biz” domains (0.4%). There are a total of 3,474,272 domains in Spain.

The “.es” domains can be divided into several categories. The basic “.es” domains represent the majority, with a total of 1,590,769 (93.77%). These are followed by “.com.es” domains (83,380), “.org.es” domains (14,471), “.nom.es” domains (6,922), “.gob.es” domains (548) and “.edu.es” domains (427). The latter two are exclusively used by government entities and education institutions, respectively.

Most “.es” domains are managed through accredited registrars. A total of 101 such agencies are currently accredited to manage “.es” domains.

The monthly statistics published on the www.dominios.es portal are drawn up using data taken from the databases of Red.es; Webhosting.info, a company that gathers statistical data on TLDs (Top-Level Domains) by country; Eurid.eu, a register that manages the “.eu” top level domain; and the CAT Foundation, which manages “.cat” domains.
